Friday Training 22nd Jan 2010

It was yet another exciting day of training for DNI members. After an energizing morning run and PT session, the students sat down to watch another video on design and innovation. These weekly video sessions really helped to open our students' perspectives and aid in giving them some creative stimulus, a component that is very critical to the club.

The students started to sift through the numerous competitions that are available, and decided on the ones they want to participate after discussion with the teachers. Other than the National Earthquake Competition and the Clean Water Competition, competitions that the students are interested in are: Toy Design Competition by Singapore Polytechnic, and Ideas in Action 2010 by Citigroup.

We can foresee that it'll be an exciting year for the club! May we stay discipline and win more awards back for the school! ^_^

Friday Training 15th Jan 2010

During today's training, we have 11 Sec 1 students attached to us for their CCA attachment program. We started the day by watching 3 very interesting videos downloaded from www.ted.com, a website that hosts all resources related to the innovative and cutting-edge talks from TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design). The students were visibly impressed by how design is changing the world in waves. They were inspired to put in their most for the rest of the years as the club tackles different competitions.

After watching the videos, an aptitude test were given to the students, with the particular intent of selecting Sec 1 students who would be suitable for the activities of DNI. The students worked in groups of 3 and tackled questions related to the multiple intelligences of spatial, logical-mathematical, and natural intelligences. The amount of energy and discussion was simply uplifting, as the students engaged one another in generative conversations in an attempt to solve the questions. Some of the answers were very creative and brought new insights to all the members of the club.

After the test, all the students gathered together to discuss the answers before they broke for lunch. After lunch, the club had a fun time of ice-breaking games and they got to know one another more. Finally, the Sec 4 students came up one by one to share about their time in DNI and about the things that they have learned throughout the years in the club. DNI is forever grateful to the Sec 4 students for leading the club in key competitions! We'll miss them!

Friday Training 8 Jan 10

On 8January, we were briefed by our teacher, Madam Ang about what is going to happen this whole year and what are we going to do every week. After briefing, we carried out our stretching exercises which was led by our chairman, Jiaqi. We then proceed to the field for our mass run after doing the exercises. When everyone has completed their 4rounds, we went to the side to do some exercises for cooling down. By the time everyone has cooled down, we went back to the design studio to planned what to do next. In the end, we decided to play the captain's ball game and it ended at 11am as we are having our recess. After our recess, we did reflections for our design studio and the topic was ' My New Year Resolutions ' . It was just nice that everyone finished their reflections at 12.30pm and we were released.
